As one of the eight academic departments of the School of Engineering, The Electrical Engineering Department was established in 1977. Since that time and through all subsequent years, the department has held to a high level of academic performance trying to achieve several aims with efforts. These include:
• Providing basic electrical engineering education in the various fields of this discipline, and maintaining a reasonable balance between theory and practice.
• Graduate competent electrical engineers through emphasizing quality education and properly oriented training.
• Engagement in active research programs in support of Jordan’s development plans.
• Positively contribute to the advancement of the electrical engineering profession, in order to meet the needs and requirements of the practicing engineers through the organization of specialized seminars, technical conferences, continuous education programs, joint research programs, and consulting services.
The Electrical Engineering B.Sc. program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of (ABET).
ABET accreditation is ISO 9001:2008 certified, making this accreditation one of the few worldwide accrediting agencies to receive this distinction. This accreditation applies for the graduates of the years starting from the year 2014 and through the year 2022.
The department offers two programs leading to the B.S and M.S degrees in electrical engineering. The B.S. program has been carefully structured to give the student enough breadth and depth in the basic fields of electrical engineering, allowing further specialization during the fifth year level. During this last year level, the student is offered a choice of options in Electronics, Communications and Power Systems and Control. The M.S. program in Communications, on the other hand, was started in the fall semester of 1982, in response to national and regional needs and as a consequence of the maturity of the B.S. program. The current program offers an M.S. degree in the field of Communications.
Graduates of both programs have been well received and acknowledged to have received good quality engineering education, and have assumed leading positions in their electrical engineering profession.
Student Enrollment for last five years:
Sound electrical engineering education requires that theoretical concepts be also ascertained through practical testing and measurements. Therefore, several laboratory facilities with sufficient equipment and space are available to cater for these ends. While these laboratories are primarily intended for undergraduate instruction, they include advanced facilities to enable graduate research projects to be undertaken especially in the areas of communications, digital signal processing, microwave measurements, machines and power electronics. The following is a list of available laboratories:
• Circuits Lab: used for basic study of circuits and network characteristics.
• Electronics Lab: used for studying basic electronic circuits.
• Machines Lab: used for studying DC and AC machines and transformers.
• Communications Lab: used to study the various aspects of analog and digital communication theory and systems including: filters, modulation techniques, and data transmission.
• Control Lab: used for studying the basic concepts of control theory including open and closed loop systems (linear and nonlinear) and analog computations.
• Power Lab.
• Power Electronic Lab.
• Measurements Lab.
• High Voltage Lab.
The Electrical Engineering Department also has other facilities of general and specific nature, which can be utilized in conjunction with certain courses, or with research projects. In particular computing facilities are available in the form of a university wide and college-wide networks in addition to computer laboratories equipped with Latest PC’s technology. Access to internet is also available on a university wide basis.
