The School of Engineering is at the highest peak in the University of Jordan, as it was established by Royal Decree in the year 1974, and teaching began in 1975 in the Departments of Civil and Architectural Engineering, in 1976 in the Department of Electrical Engineering, in 1977 in the Departments of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, and in 1988 in the Department of Engineering. Industrial and in the year 2001 in the Department of Computer Engineering, in addition to the establishment of a program in mechatronics engineering in the Department of Electrical Engineering in the year 2000.
The first class graduated from the School of Engineering in the year 1979, with 73 male and female students, and then the processions of graduates continued in subsequent years, as is clear in Figure No. (1), until they reached (845) in the year 2024, with various degrees (Bachelor's, Higher Diploma, Master's, Doctorate). The School of Engineering began receiving students and teaching in the buildings of the Faculty of Science at the University of Jordan and moved in 1983 to the permanent (current) building, which has an area of more than 34,000 square meters on a plot of land with an area of 56,800 square meters.

The number of students accepted into the School of Engineering has continued to increase, as the number of graduating students reflects that increase, as is clear in Figure (1).
The number of the School of Engineering students in 2024 reached approximately 3,250 male and female students, taught and supervised by 160 faculty members and 68 laboratory technicians, located in a building area of 43,300 square meters. The School of Engineering - in order to achieve the goals of the University of Jordan in its pursuit of global excellence - decided to begin accrediting its programs by the American Accreditation Board (ABET). At the beginning of the academic year 2016/2017, it was able to accredit three programs (from the first evaluation round in October The second in 2015) of its programs: Chemical, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. The other programs (Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering) obtained ABET accreditation in the summer of 2017 and all of these programs are accredited until 9/30/2028.
The School of Engineering includes eight departments: civil engineering, architectural engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, computer engineering, and mechatronics engineering at the bachelor's level, in addition to fourteen programs at the master's level and a program at the professional diploma. It is preparing to launch a doctoral program in mechanical engineering jointly with the Technical University of Hamburg in Germany. The School of Engineering has achieved an advanced global ranking in the QS global classification of majors in 2024, as it ranked 253 in the field of engineering and technology, ahead of the ranking it held in 2023. The University of Jordan was also ranked in four engineering majors (civil, electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering) in Three of them were the top universities locally.
This is because we have already achieved remarkable success in education and research and we intend to maintain and build on it. In addition, the School of Engineering has several research and industrial units such as the Industry Liaison Unit, KADDB Research Laboratories, Engineering Ateliers and the Industrial Partnership Board.
