Prediction of Axial Response of Squared and Circular Short UHPFRC Columns

The compressive behavior of ultrahigh-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) columns was previously studied but based on either limited experimental data or based on small-scale specimens. In this study, the compressive behavior is extensively evaluated and design guidelines to estimate the axial load–strain relationship is proposed. Confinement provided by transverse reinforcement and steel fibers is considered and modified compared with literature. A new guideline to calculate the strength coefficient is introduced. To validate the suggested design guidelines, 42 large-scale squared specimens are considered, and it is concluded that these suggested guidelines can predict the axial load capacity and the axial ductility so they can be used for design. The axial load–strain relationship is also calculated based on available confinement models and proposed strength coefficient for only six available …
