Cognitive Radio-Based Directional Comparison Blocking Relaying Scheme

In this article, the promising features of cognitive radio communication systems are used to propose a novel directional comparison blocking pilot relaying scheme. The proposed scheme will use relatively cheap, yet reliable, communication technology to transmit pilot signals between distance relays that are used for transmission line protection. This new signal transmission technique is compared with traditional microwave and optical fiber communication schemes and its robustness, reliability, and adequacy are proven. This proposed scheme is constructed in MATLAB/Simulink environment and the relay dependability and security tests show promising results. The communication channel and its parameters are also investigated to ensure the reliability of the proposed scheme under different system occupancy and channel availability.
