The Chemical Engineering Department was established in 1978. The Department has established itself as the primary supplier of B.Sc. chemical engineers in Jordan. The Chemical Engineering B.Sc.program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of
ABET, the recognized U.S. accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology.
Furthermore; the department launched the master degree program by1986 which made the department a research force to be reckoned in Jordan.
The Department of Chemical Engineering at University of Jordan prides itself on preparing it students for creative careers in industry, academia, and government. The department is a community of outstanding researchers, experienced educators, distinguished engineers, and talented students.
Research activities undertaken by the faculty span a wide range of chemical engineering topics including, but not limited to, separation processes, transport phenomena, reaction engineering, molecular thermodynamics, membrane processes, safety engineering, renewable energy, wastewater treatment, and computer aided design.
Moreover, the department is well equipped for teaching and research facilities. For teaching purpose; the lecture halls are equipped with the latest teaching technology including interactive boards, data show, projectors and computers.
Likewise the teaching laboratories such as fluid mechanics, the heat transfer and mass transfer, the reaction, which are used to insight the theoretical knowledge to the practical application. On the other hand, the research laboratories involve many up to date equipment in order to facilitate the currently undertaken research in the department including fuel processing, analytical chemistry, membrane processes and desalination, biochemical engineering, safety engineering. Computer halls for both undergraduate and graduate students are also available.
Currently, there are fourteen faculty members in the department with different academic affiliations of honorary professor, professors, assistant professors, and associate professors . It worth’s mentioning that all the academic staff in the department are well educated and have obtained their degrees from highly ranked universities in North America, Great Britain and Europe.
The following table presents the number of enrolled students and graduates for each academic program in the Department of Chemical Engineering, categorized by academic year and study level (Bachelor's, Master's, and Higher Diploma).
