University of Jordan Academic Wins Presidency of IAESTE International for 2026

Dr. Osaid Jawdat Matar from the University of Jordan (UJ) has become the first Arab academic ever to be elected President of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE), marking a defining moment for the organization since its founding in 1948. The election took place during the 81st General Conference held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Matar, who has served as the National Secretary of IAESTE Jordan for the past two years, expanded Jordan’s role within the association by strengthening institutional partnerships and increasing participation in international programs. His leadership and regional engagement earned broad support from member states, leading to his election with a clear majority.

During the conference, he was recognized by the IAESTE Board of Directors with a Certificate of Appreciation and received the IAESTE pin in acknowledgment of his national contribution, an honor granted to individuals who demonstrate exceptional service within the association.

IAESTE, established in 1948 and now comprising more than eighty member countries, provides paid technical training opportunities for students and promotes international cultural exchange. As President-elect for 2026, Matar will help shape the association’s strategic direction and represent it in global forums.
