Successful meeting of the “Smart Eco” project at Doha University of Science and Technology with the support of the German Academic Exchange Service


Meetings, encounters, field visits, workshops, and student competitions were the focus of the visit program of the University of Jordan team/members of the "Smart Eco" project supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to Doha University of Science and Technology in Qatar; with the aim of shedding light on the most prominent fruitful cooperation achieved, which was translated into reality by the members of the project, which includes a tripartite partnership consisting of Jordan, Germany, and Qatar.

 

The visit of the team consisting of the project coordinator in Jordan, Dr. Yazan Al-Zain, Dr. Muhammad Abdul Majeed from the School of Engineering, Dr. Ruba Obeidat from the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology, Dr. Ziad Al-Kalha from the School of Business, and master's student Baraa Al-Kilani, topped the meeting with teams from the German University of Chemnitz, and Doha University of Science and Technology, a partner in the "Smart Eco" project, which aims to use drones to solve environmental problems.

 

During the meeting, student Baraa Al-Kilani gave a detailed presentation of the results of his research project, which he addressed in his master's thesis, and simulates the use of drones to locate people in natural disasters, and was implemented within the "Smart Eco" project, under the supervision of Dr. Yazan Al-Zain and Dr. Ghaith Abanda.

 

The attendees also discussed the visions and future aspirations of the project members from the partner universities; this contributes to ensuring the continuity of cooperation and expanding the presentation of new scientific ideas and proposals; enhancing the concept of innovation in the field of using smart technologies to address environmental challenges.

 

In addition, the university team participated in a training workshop held at the headquarters of Doha University of Science and Technology on "The mechanism of controlling drones and collecting data", and the team participated, along with the German TU Chemnitz University team, in judging a student competition held to announce the best research projects for students at Doha University.

 

On the sidelines of the visit, the University of Jordan team accompanied the project partners on coordination visits and field visits to the various facilities of Doha University of Science and Technology; With the aim of enhancing cooperation in various academic and research fields, and exploring the potential that may be available to drive cooperation between all parties.

 

It is worth noting that the "Smart Eco" project seeks to exchange dialogue and establish a strong network of relationships between participating universities in Qatar, Jordan, and Germany, by exchanging knowledge and expertise; This constitutes essential support for research and projects in the field of smart environmental solutions, by focusing on solutions that use artificial intelligence, drones, and the Internet of Things.​
