Architecture students at UJ participate in a workshop on “Climate Justice: Governance as a Tool” Organized by the Institute of Politics and Society in partnership with the Carnegie Middle East Foundation

A delegation of architecture students from the University of Jordan recently participated in a workshop titled “Climate Justice: Governance as a Tool" organized by the Institute of Policy and Society in partnership with the Carnegie Middle East Foundation.

The workshop was a valuable learning opportunity for the participating students, as it introduced them to new challenges imposed by climate change on the Middle East and North Africa region. Omar Abdullah, one of the participating students, said about this workshop: “It was an enriching experience that introduced me to the increasing material and social difficulties faced by female farmers working in rural areas, and the role of climate change and its various phenomena in depleting basic resources, such as water and fuel, in a region whose wealth has been plundered for decades; which leads to the emergence of new conflicts at the local and regional levels."

A number of ideas were raised during the workshop revolving around the importance of liberation from colonialism; To achieve climate justice, the students participating in the workshop thanked the University of Jordan and the Department of Architecture, represented by the Head of the Department, Dr. Diala Al-Tarawneh, expressing their hope that the ideas presented and discussed in the workshop would turn into tangible policies and solutions that would limit the effects of climate change before it is too late.
