Chemical Engineering at the Jordanian University implements a workshop on public safety for its students

In coordination with the Public Safety and Environment Office and the School of Engineering at the University of Jordan, and within the framework of the School's keenness to promote a culture of public safety, a workshop was organized on safety principles in chemical engineering laboratories, with student participation and the attendance of all students registered in the practical laboratories for the current semester, under the patronage of Dr. Menwer Attarakih, Dean of the School of Engineering.

 

The work of this workshop was coordinated by the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Dr. Mohammad Rasoul Qteishat, Dr. Linda Al-Hamoud, Engineer Arwa Sandouqa from the Chemical Engineering Department, and Mr. Ziad Al-Naimat from the Public Safety and Environment Office.

 

This workshop aims to raise awareness about the importance of following safety procedures and dealing safely with chemicals; The workshop included several main topics, including identifying potential risks in laboratories, and how to use personal protective equipment correctly. Awareness videos were also shown on how to act in emergency situations, including how to deal with fires and chemical leaks.

 

Dr. Menwer Attarakih, Dean of the School of Engineering, stressed that "laboratory safety is not an option, but a necessity, and we are committed to providing a safe environment for all students and employees. Therefore, through this workshop, we seek to enhance the culture of safety and raise awareness of correct practices."

 

Mr. Ziad Al-Naimat, Assistant Director of the Public Safety and Environment Office, said: "We work with our partners to build a strong safety culture among students; because it is everyone's responsibility, and through these activities we seek to provide students with the necessary knowledge and tools; to protect themselves and the environment."

 

On the other hand, the participating students expressed their appreciation for these initiatives; One student said: “The workshop was very helpful, and I now feel more confident in how to handle chemicals."

 

The School, in cooperation with the Public Safety and Environment Office, plans to organize more workshops and training courses to ensure everyone adheres to safety procedures. The School of Engineering also seeks to continue improving safety standards in its laboratories, with the aim of providing a safe educational environment that encourages innovation and learning.​
