University of Jordan News - The activities of the first national electronic chip design competition, JoSDC, were concluded today, Tuesday, through the closing ceremony held at the Royal Cultural Center under the patronage of His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II.
The university team, consisting of students Abdul Rahman Ibdah, Al-Baraa Al-Najjar, Omar Al-Suwaiti, Daoud Al-Asasfeh, and Yaman Al-Ashqar, won second place in the competition and received a cash prize worth 3,000 dinars. The winning team was supervised by the Head of the Computer Engineering Department, Dr. Walid Dweik, and the Assistant Dean of the School. Computer Engineering, Dr. Ashraf Al Sayyagh.
The competition aims to develop students' skills in the field of designing microprocessors and electronic chips, and building integrated systems using FPGA technologies used in global industry. The competition also aims to highlight the energies of Jordanian youth and their ability to keep pace with international technologies in design, development, innovation, leadership, and practically apply what they have learned in universities. The closing event was attended by representatives of the World Bank, international and local companies, the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Azmi Muhafza, and the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmed Al-Hanandah. The ceremony included a dialogue session on the future of design and development of electronic chips and the role of the government, the private sector, and academia in advancing this sector.
It is noteworthy that 76 student teams from ten Jordanian universities competed in the competition to design a microprocessor with specific specifications and then improve its performance in various ways. 12 teams qualified for the final stage, four of which were from the Computer Engineering Department at the University of Jordan under the supervision of Dr. Ashraf Al-Sayyagh and Dr. Walid Al-Dweik. .
While the other three teams received praise from the evaluation committee for their distinctive designs and the good display of their talents, technical skills, presentation and communication skills, as these teams consisted of Hala Al-Faris, Amr Abu Ziad, Firas Abdel Rahim, Nour Daas, Rand Al-Aidi, Rand Abu Al-Ragheb, Ahmed Al-Fuqaha, Tala Alqam (electrical engineering), Ibrahim Al-Sammadi, and Roya Abdul Qader.
