| | | The ٍSchoolof Engineering was established in 1974 to be a distinguished scientific edifice and an effective partner in enhancing the quality of education and providing a creative university environment built on innovation and interaction. This is achieved by adopting national and international standards for education quality, developing its plans and curricula in line with global developments to meet the needs of the local, regional, and international community. This is the ultimate goal that the School has been keen to achieve, to contribute to development and create conscious generations, both inside and outside Jordan, capable of dynamically and effectively adapting to the job market and the requirements of the engineering profession.
The University of Jordan Achieves a Qualitative Leap in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject, leading in the field of Engineering and Technology, which rose from rank 253 in 2024 to rank 150 in 2025.
At the level of specific subjects, Computer Science and Information Systems rose to rank 100 globally after being at rank 149 last year. Civil Engineering came in at rank 229, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering at rank 232, while Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering rose to rank 291. Meanwhile, Chemical Engineering entered the rankings at position 398 globally.
To consolidate its global standing and in fulfillment of the vision and mission of The University of Jordan, the School has attracted and appointed a number of globally renowned honorary professors from the University of Bradford, the Technical University of Denmark, New York University Abu Dhabi, and the University of Sharjah. The School hosted them to deliver lectures and exchange expertise through forums organized by the University in cooperation with its colleges for the honorary professors.
The School comprises nine departments at the Bachelor's level: Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and Aeronautical Engineering in cooperation with the Jordanian Company for Aircraft Maintenance (JorAMCo). Additionally, it offers eighteen programs at the Master's level, a professional diploma program, and has launched a joint PhD program in Mechanical Engineering with the Hamburg University of Technology in Germany. The School is also preparing to launch a joint PhD program in Computer Engineering with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the USA.
Regarding the quality of learning in the School's programs, the School aligns the quality requirements outlined in the University of Jordan's strategy with the necessities of international accreditation. In this context, seven of the School's programs have obtained international accreditation (ABET). In October 2016, three programs received international accreditation: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering. In October 2019, four other programs received the same international accreditation: Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Mechatronics Engineering. The accreditation for these programs was then renewed in 2022 for a period of six years.
To ensure the enhancement of its students' outcomes, the School of Engineering hosts the office of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE), which is dedicated to training its students worldwide. It is the only national office representing Jordan in the IAESTE organization. The number of exchange countries has been expanded to include Brazil, Germany, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Poland, India, Vietnam, China, Palestine, Oman, Switzerland, Syria, Lebanon, and Spain, which has positively impacted students' benefit from training opportunities. The School of Engineering also successfully hosted the International IAESTE Conference in Jordan in November 2024, a unique event on a global scale.
Regarding infrastructure and facilities, the School includes numerous classrooms, reading halls, and auditoriums equipped with smart podiums and the latest communication devices to keep pace with e-learning in both its blended and remote forms. It also houses many laboratories equipped with the latest technologies and modern equipment that assist students and researchers in conducting research and studies. The School diligently strives to serve the community and the engineering profession by providing consultations to the private and government sectors, offering specialized courses and workshops, as well as organizing conferences, seminars, and participating in scientific forums locally and abroad.
