School Abstract

Welcome to the Official Website of the School of Engineering

The School of Engineering was established in 1974 as a distinguished scientific institution to improve the quality of students’ education and provide a creative environment through the adoption of national and international standards. This ensures a high quality of education by the development of curricula that are consistent with global developments to meet the needs of the local, regional, and international markets. The school is keen to contribute to the development and raising the consciousness of young generations to be capable of adapting to the labor market and the requirements of the engineering profession in a dynamic and effective way.

The School of Engineering achieved an advanced global ranking through QS World subject ranking in 2024, as it ranked 253 in the field of engineering and technology, ahead of the ranking in 2023. The school was also ranked in four engineering subjects, in three of which the school was first locally; In the civil engineering, it was ranked 201-240 globally, and it was ranked 251-300 in electrical and electronic engineering, ahead of the 301-350 rank in 2023, and 301-350 in the mechanical and manufacturing engineering, ahead of the 401-450 rank in the last year. To stand globally and achieve the vision and mission of the University of Jordan, the School attracted and appointed several internationally distinguished honorary professors from the University of Bradford, the Technical University of Denmark, New York University in Abu Dhabi, and the University of Sharjah. The school hosted them to deliver lectures and exchange experiences through forums organized by the university in partnership with the schools for honorary professors.

The school hosts eight departments: civil, architectural, electrical, mechanical, chemical, industrial, computer, and mechatronics engineering at the bachelor’s level, in addition to fourteen programs at the master’s level, a vocational diploma program, and a joint doctoral program in mechanical engineering with the Technical University of Hamburg in Germany, which will be launched soon.

As for the quality of learning in the School of Engineering, the school aligns the quality requirements of the University of Jordan’s strategy with the requirements of international accreditation. In this context, seven programs from the school have been accredited by ABET. In October 2016, three programs obtained international accreditation, namely Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering. In October 2019, four other programs obtained the same international accreditation: Civil, Industrial, Computer, and Mechatronics Engineering. In 2022, the accreditation of these programs was renewed for a period of six years.

To ensure the enhancement of the students’ learning outcomes, the School of Engineering has hosted the IAESTE office, which is directed to train students around the globe. It is the only national office representing Jordan in the IAESTE organization, where several exchange countries have joined our IAESTE office that include Brazil, Germany, Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Poland, India, Vietnam, China, Palestine, Oman, Switzerland, Syria, Lebanon, Spain. This definitely will have a positive impact on students benefiting from training opportunities in these countries. The School of Engineering also succeeded in hosting the IASTA International Conference in Jordan in November 2024, which is considered a unique event in the world.

As for infrastructure and facilities, the school has many teaching classrooms, reading halls, and auditoriums equipped with smart platforms and the latest communication technologies to keep pace with e-learning, both in blended and distance delivery methods. It also includes many laboratories equipped with the latest technologies and modern equipment that help the students and researchers in conducting research and practical studies. The school strives to serve the community and the engineering profession by providing consultations to the private and public sectors, offering specialized courses and workshops, as well as holding conferences and seminars, and participating in scientific forums locally and abroad.
