MSc. Industrial Engineering/ Management (Thesis and Non- thesis Track) / Program Overview

Ø Background to the program and subject area:

The Master of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering/ Engineering Management was the first Master program in engineering management licensed by government of Jordan at the University of Jordan. We enrolled our first Gradates students in September 1988. Since then we have grown in all aspects: more students, more courses, and more international collaborations, at the same time maintaining our academic reputation.
We are proud of our growing reputation as a provider of quality higher education in the Kingdom of Jordan and in the region. The high quality of education of the Master of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering/ Engineering Management is at the core of everything we do and the reviews by the local Accreditation and Quality Assurance Center and by the national accreditation and quality assurance commission for higher education intuitions continue to recognize the quality of our teaching and learning.
The field of Engineering Management with a focus on engineering and technology management bridges the gap between engineering and management. It involves the overall management of organizations oriented to manufacturing, construction, engineering, and technology or production. Engineering Management enables engineers to function more effectively in the business environment.  A Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering/ Engineering Management provides a technical-based alternative to traditional engineering master programs.
The program provides understanding of managerial roles, analysis of the diverse functions of technological and engineering organizations, and instruction in modern management techniques and tools as they apply to formulating and executing decisions in engineering, as well as technical and scientific organizations.

The program consists of 33 credits in including
· 18 credits of core courses.
· 6 credits of elective courses.
· 9 credits of thesis research.

The core courses provide a more comprehensive foundation in engineering management principles (functions of an organization, organizational management and behavior, operations, project management, marketing, cost and quality control, finance, staff, technical requirements, and engineering contract management, and supply chain management and logistics planning). Furthermore, in the thesis dissertation students select a research advisor and area for specialization. The thesis may involve either theoretical or experimental investigations, or both. It can be of a limited scope but should involve a significant degree of originality. The thesis enables the graduate student to Identify, formalize, and solve real-life business and EM problems.
