Title

Prof. Ali Badran gets King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein Award for Innovation In the field of solar energy

Body

Prof. Ali Abdel Halim Badran, faculty member in Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, the University of Jordan received King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein Award for Innovation in the field of solar energy. The award is one of the finest in the country and the region, and was for a track of research that he established in this field and was capped by the design and construction of a device that produces electricity, hot water and desalinated water at the same time. The idea of this research is to benefit from the lost energy from the photovoltaic panel, which amounts to about 85% of solar radiation incident on it, in heating water and/or desalinating it on the bottom surface of the panel, and thereby is used for domestic purposes. If it is required to get desalinated water, the feed water flow rate is reduced, thereby its temperature is increased and a larger part of it is turned into vapor which is condensed inside the device to form desalinated water. The number of researches performed by Prof. Badran within this track of research is 13, which is part of thirty researches done in the field of solar energy, both within the general researches he performed amounting to about fifty. His research interests are also in heat transfer in buildings, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration, all published in international scientific journals and engineering conferences. Most of his works are sponsored by the University of Jordan.
