University of Jordan Scholar Wins First Place in the 2025 Economic Research Award

The University of Jordan (UJ) has secured first place in the inaugural Amman Chamber of Commerce Award for Economic Research 2025 through a study led by Dr. Adham Alsharkawi, titled “Strategies for Enhancing Urban Food Security Using Deep Reinforcement Learning.”

The award was announced during a ceremony held under the patronage of Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Eng. Yarub Qudah, in the presence of President of the Amman Chamber of Commerce Senator Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq.

More than 180 scholars applied for the award, with 89 full papers undergoing a rigorous evaluation process that included originality checks and interviews conducted by an independent academic committee.

Alsharkawi’s study introduces an advanced simulation model powered by deep reinforcement learning to strengthen data-driven policymaking on urban food security, offering insights that help decision-makers balance long-term planning with rapid emergency response.

This achievement reinforces the growing role of artificial intelligence in economic policy development and aligns with Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision.  Alsharkawi expressed his appreciation to UJ for its continued support of scientific research, noting that the study contributes practical tools for addressing emerging food security challenges.
