School of Engineering - Department of Civil Engineering

Department Strategy

Mission

The Department of Civil Engineering aspires to occupy a prominent position at the national and regional levels in the field of education, research, cooperation with local industries, awareness programs, in addition to community service This is accomplished by Offer high quality education to prepare competitive engineers for a successful career, conduct state-of-the-art research to provide service to the university, engineering profession, and the public.

Vision

The Civil Engineering Department aims for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, research in all subfields of civil engineering, and public service. The department strives to equip students with valuable knowledge, skills, and even attitudes in the field of civil engineering, enabling them to play a leading role in promoting sound engineering practices within ethical, professional, environmental, and sustainable educational frameworks. Additionally, the department focuses on applying and enhancing the understanding of civil engineering principles through partnerships with local industries and improving the quality of life for Jordanians through education, research, and outreach programs.

Program Educational Objectives:

1-  To Reflect the appropriate balance between the fundamental principles of civil engineering and the application of these principles to real-world problems.

2-  To Achieve success in formulating and solving real-world engineering problems in the civil engineering profession both locally and internationally.

3-  To Provide a balanced degree program that aimed to developing students' in analytical skills in a comprehensive range of engineering fields as a foundation for pursuing graduate studies.

4-  Develop essential intellectual, personal, and practical skills that enable students to secure employment in various civil engineering careers and assume leadership roles in managing teamwork within the field of civil engineering, considering social, economic, environmental, ethical, safety, health, and sustainability constraints.

5-  Enable students to engage in long-term learning, study, and research.

6-  Help students successfully achieve their personal goals and make valuable contributions to society by offering study opportunities that enable them to develop the knowledge and understanding necessary to find solutions to civil engineering problems.

7-  Successfully pursue graduate studies or professional development.

Student Outcomes (POs):

1- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.

2-  An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.

3-  An ability to communicate effectively and work with multidisciplinary groups and with a range of audiences.

4-  An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.

5-  An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.

6-  An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.

7-  An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.

8-  The ability to design and realize systems, components, or physical processes, thermally or mechanically, and apply them to meet the required needs within real constraints.

9-  A broad-based education to understand the impact of engineering solutions in the global and societal context and contemporary issues and problems.
