B.Sc. Industrial Engineering / Program Overview

Ø Background to the program and subject area:

The IE Department was established on October 19, 1986. Since then, about 3000 qualified industrial engineers had graduated from the department. The average annual admission rate is around 130 students for the BSc program and 15 for the MSc program, with nearly 800 full time students.  The department has 24 faculty members who are active in their fields of specialization. The IE Department promotes supporting experiments to complement the taught theory through six continuously updated laboratories.
The graduates of the IE Department have demonstrated a proven professional record in both private and public sectors not only in Jordan but also in the region. The high reputation of IE graduates has made them to constitute the finest engineers in many governmental and industrial establishments in the gulf countries. Also, the strong theoretical background of our graduates has enabled many of them to join post graduate programs in high reputation universities in USA, Canada, and Western Europe. They either take academic research posts in those countries or return as an academic and research work force in local and regional academic and research institutions.
 
Industrial engineering is a broad professional discipline concerned with designing, implementing and controlling efficient and effective production systems that produce both services and/or physical products. It is concerned with combining and integrating all resources to achieve the production objectives with the best way of resources utilization. Basic production resources include manpower, machines and systems, materials and supplies, money and capitals, and management and information.
 
Fields of specialization covered by the program including, general industrial engineering, manufacturing processes, management and economy, design, control and automation, operations research and decision making, maintenance engineering and management, materials science, time and working methods engineering, and quality engineering.

To provide a respectable academic environment for research and teaching through its curriculum and partnership with industry. The department is committed to graduate industrial engineers prepared with the proficiency to account for social and technological changes as they mature in the field of industrial engineering, and who can excel in the field after graduation.
 
Ø Program Aims:
Graduates of the Industrial engineering program are expected within a few years of graduation to:
1.       Demonstrate their ability to integrate and apply knowledge, skills, professional ethics and leadership at national, regional and global levels.
2.       Demonstrate their ability to work successfully both independently and in team functioning effectively as responsible professionals.
3.       Establish themselves as distinguished professionals in industry, academia and other related fields.
4.       Develop themselves in post-graduate studies in Industrial engineering or related fields
5.       Participate in effective research programs to support Jordan's development plans. Contribute positively to improving the engineering profession to meet the needs and requirements of practicing engineers through the organization of specialized seminars, technical conferences, continuing education programs, joint research programs and advisory services.
