Soha Al-Subaihi - This morning at the University of Jordan, under the patronage of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, and in the presence of the University President, Dr. Nathir Obeidat, the final conference of the vocational training diploma project on electric and hybrid vehicles “Eco-Car" was opened. supported by the European Union within the Erasmus Plus programme.

 

The Director of the Directorate of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Engineer Yaqoub Murrar, indicated in a speech delivered by the Minister's representative that the project is consistent with the energy sector strategy for the years 2020-2030, which seeks to increase the contribution of renewable energy to electricity generation, and the strategy of shifting towards electric transport that aims to contribute to Reducing carbon emissions by 10% by 2030, by establishing mechanisms to stimulate the use of electric cars and buses.

 

During the opening ceremony, Obeidat stressed that the project's goals and achievements are aligned with the university's aspirations within its strategic plan to build and develop specialized skills, which will contribute to providing the labor market with qualified cadres, along with providing it with digital and soft skills, so that students are able to engage in the labor market and respond quickly to its requirements. changing, pointing out the importance of building and strengthening the infrastructure that ensures the sustainability of these projects.

 

For his part, the Director of Energy and Climate Programs at the European Union Mission, Omar Abu Eid, stressed the importance of the partnership between the Union and Jordan over the past twenty years, whether in development or in various fields, especially in the education and energy sectors. The Union played a role in setting green and renewable energy frameworks, and working with the Ministry of Energy since the first strategy that was developed in 2007, in addition to many programs whose budgets exceeded 160 million euros in the field of renewable energy development, noting that the Union has been working since 2021 within the deal plan. European green.

Projects Director at the Erasmus National Office, Asma Al-Sammadi, spoke about the program's impact on the higher education sector in Jordan, noting that Jordan successfully participated in 58 capacity-building projects, and coordinated 19 of them, stressing the program's effective role in supporting projects that address contemporary challenges and needs. In the field of education, as this project does.

In turn, the project coordinator, Dr. Ahmed Al-Salaimeh, presented the goals and achievements of the project led by the University of Jordan, which included the establishment of multiple professional and intermediate diplomas, the holding of many training workshops and meetings with experts, the establishment of private laboratories, the preparation of cadres of faculty members, engineers and technicians, and the inclusion of 14 partners. From Jordanian and European universities.

Over the course of two sessions in which experts from partner universities participate, the conference aims to explore the latest developments and sustainable technologies in the field of transportation and electric and hybrid vehicle technology. It also constitutes an opportunity to present ideas, discussions, and questions about these technologies, and to come up with recommendations that contribute to shaping the future of sustainable transportation.
